Philadelphia, PA - December 4, 2012 - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) will hold a press conference at the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center to discuss the Clothe a Homeless Hero Act.

This bill (S. 3640) requires the Transportation Security Administration to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs and local charities to distribute unclaimed clothing left at airport security to homeless and needy vets and their families. The senator introduced the bill Nov. 28, and a companion bill introduced by U.S. Representative Kathy Hochul passed the House of Representatives Nov. 27.

Local officials and veterans advocates are invited to join Sen. Toomey at the press conference.

According to the VA, about 75,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and about 20,000 veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been homeless within the last five years.

"I am the wife of a Viet Nam Veteran. My husband started going to PVMSEC 10 years ago for help. No mere words could ever express how much his life and in turn our family life has changed for the better in those years. I am and always will be grateful for the wonderful care he has received at the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service Center & Education Center."
